Three men have been arrested and charged overnight after plotting to carry out a hijacking and divert it to Syria to join the terror group, ISIS, gifting them with an American plane and hostages.
Abror Habibov, 30, Abdurasul Hansanovich Juraboev, 24, and Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19, were arrested overnight at JFK International Airport after allegedly plotting to hijack a plane and fly to Syria to join The Islamic State (ISIS).
The three Brooklyn residents also allegedly discussed the assassination of America’s President Barack Obama. One of the three men, Abdurasul Hansanovich Juraboev, posted online that he would go through with the assassination if ISIS said to, and that he’d plant a bomb on Coney Island, according to an unsealed complaint in the federal court in Brooklyn, New York.
The court was told the plane would leave John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and be hijacked by the men and flown to Syria where they would join ISIS, giving the organisation the plane with hostages aboard. The journey would start on Wednesday, flying to Turkey. The three had also talked about joining US Military in order to attack American Soldiers.
New York Police Commissioner William Bratton told reporters: “This is real.
“This is the concern about the lone wolf, inspired to act without ever going to the Mideast.”
Commissioner Bratton said there was a concern that US citizens might travel to the Middle East and acquire fighting skills and then attempt to return and commit terrorist acts.
Each of the men faces up to 15 years in prison.
