You heard it right. Vladimir Putin, the man everyone has been talking about for the last few weeks, has been selected as one of the 278 nominees for the next Nobel Peace Prize.
The recent Russian military action in Ukraine and opposition to Russia’s LGBT movement seem to have no effect on some people. The nomination letter said: “Being the leader of one of the leading nations of the world, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin makes efforts to maintain peace and tranquillity not only on the territory of his own country but also actively promotes settlement of all conflicts arising on the planet.”
Edward Snowden and Pope Francis are also candidates this year. Stalin and Hitler were among past nominees.
The prize is awarded to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”, and will be announced on October 11.
Ironic but if he pulls out of the Ukraine, he might win it
