The thing I find most magical about Korean Pop is that as I don’t speak the language, I can fully enjoy its bright shiny, hilarious ways without having to endure the questionable cheese-filled lyrics that are so characteristically pop.
Now some of you may be shocked to learn I have only been introduced to K-POP this past weekend and that, until recently, I had never known the wonder of such groups as 2NE1, Girls’ Generation or Big Bang.
You may ask (as I do myself): How did I live without such delightful videos and upbeat melodies in my life? It is the most satisfying pop experience I think I could ever have, and I am afraid of the precipice on which I now stand.
Now while I have succumbed to the smiley appeal of K-PoP in general there is one video that, for me, outshines all. It is the sun and all others are mere moons. Yes, it is my Juliet and I am surely one of the millions of Romeos fallen to its seductive charms….
Oh Psy… Where have you been all my life? *Swoon*.
Perhaps it’s because it takes itself a little less seriously than the rest? I mean, while I see the appeal of Girl Generation or Big Bang, neither stray too far from pop groups of the past such as the Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys. But watching PSY’s video I ask myself MANY times “What did I just see?” and “Why???” I’m wide eyed and smiling like a kid in a candy store, it is a truly satisfying video experience.
Whether it is all K-POP or really just PSY that I have fallen for, I highly recommend you taste the forbidden fruits of this brain candy from The East for yourself.
It’s not like you were going to get any work done today anyway.
