In a world over-saturated with digital content and entertainment it’s easy to be inspired to create your own.
When I was a kid I adored the freshly growing landscape of YouTube in its 2010 era.
This drove me to record and re-create the videos I would watch.
While these videos may be a bit … cringey, they demonstrate the strive and dedication you need to further improve your videos.
Never be discouraged. Nobody is perfect on the first go.
An aspiration for creativity is fundamental for differentiating your content from others’.
Be yourself. People watch you for YOUR personality.
Okay we get it, Jaydn. But how do I actually get started with creating content?
Well let me start with a question, who is your target audience? The answer to this question dictates what kind of content you will create whether that be videos, graphics or articles.
When I was in school, I created content mainly for the people around me – my friends and family. So the videos I made were very much influenced in the type of YouTube content my friends and I would consume.
If you already have an idea on what you want to make, then go for it!
This is my philosophy.
A lot of people say research the people you are inspired by, discover what makes their posts great, and find out why they have such large followings. But if you are truly inspired by others in the field that you want to create in then you have already done your research – just passively.
Sure, it can be good to get a mind map down, but the best practice is always the doing.
Overthinking is a content creator’s worst enemy – it causes you to doubt yourself and change something that probably didn’t need changing.
So what are you waiting for? Put yourself out there, don’t be scared of other people’s judgment.
Remember that everyone has their own unique pathways and journeys, and don’t feel the need to compare yourself to others all the time.
Don’t be overly critical.
Stay cool, enjoy the ride.
