For today’s theme of You Can Do It, we have decided to focus on Martin Luther King Jr. The reason for this is how King accomplished a lot in advancing the civil rights movement, while many others before him couldn’t.
With racial tension on the rise in the 1950s and 60s, due to a series of events that put the African American community against the white community. King did what any civil rights leader had not done before, and took advantage of each event by public speaking out against it. With his charisma and powerful speaking abilities, support for King grew.
By the mid-1960s, the Government could no longer ignore the problem, as racial violence was increasing the more King campaigned. The Government enacted legislation that crushed segregation across the United States. The purpose of putting this story in today’s radio broadcast is to show that the impact of one person, can achieve many would deem impossible. King’s story is proof that you can do what you put your mind to.
